a lot of people have a lot of complaints about cyberpunk and it’s story, all of which are valid. the biggest ones i’ve seen are like “the choices don’t change much” and “there’s no real impact on the world around you”. idk why cdpr did the game the way they did it, so i can’t pretend to i ow what was purposeful and what was an oversight. but, regardless, here’s my take:

(spoilers for some of the endings and side quests below)

in the world of cyberpunk, the world is on fire, basically. corporations are out of control. government corruption is at an all time high. people kill each other on the streets. crime and poverty run rampant.

the game isn’t about doing something about that. it was never meant to be. the game was never meant to be about saving the world. it’s about saving yourself

v’s choices don’t make a huge impact on Night City as a whole, but i think v does make a huge impact on the people around her.

without v, panam would still be stuck in NC, miserable and cut off from her clan. she and v get extremely close, whether you romance her or not.

without v, river would remain a cop fighting a broken system that would probably end up destroying him.

without v, judy would have no one to trust, no one to turn to after evelyn dies.

without v, kerry might not even be alive because there’s a lot of evidence suggesting that he may have been suicidal at the time that he meets v.

even side characters like misty, vik, and mama welles are greatly impacted by v and their choices, especially at the end of the game.

and if you go with the suicide ending, you get to see just how much the wrecks the people who care about v.

so maybe, just maybe, cdpr wasn’t trying to say that we should save the world. they weren’t trying to say that small people can have a big impact. they were saying that we have the most impact on the people we love, the people who love us. that our choices can help or hurt them more than it can help or hurt the world at large.

idk, just some thoughts i had.
