Sorry, loaded back into Vera and didn’t know where tf i was so i reloaded a lil earlier to the conversation with Johnny after “Search and Destroy” and i just cannot get over the entire branch of dialogue but this dialogue in particular:
Johnny, before this line, recalls what it was like to die as V asks, and he even confesses that it felt like darkness, fear, and isn’t sure if that was his death or V’s that he’s recalling the feeling of. Then goes on to remark about how bad Mikoshi is, how dangerous, how immoral the place it here.
He asks V why and you can say this line to him, to which he remarks “Goddamn Right”, and even before this during a prior conversation during the Panam quest arc you can have with him (at this same hotel actually), in one of the dialogue branches, it can lead to him saying “Death by becoming someone else… You didn’t do anything to deserve that fate” (!!!)
And then finally, at the end, you have the optional dialogue to say this to him- to remind him what is happening with you two, the biochip, what really is happening here to V which leads to Johnny remorsefully saying this:
You can see after doing Panam and Takemura’s lines more and more how Johnny is coming to care for V, show empathy for the situation that he never meant to put anyone in and is understanding that V is scared, just like he was, and he recognizes it, acknowledges it even, and sounds half determined, half unsure, “I’m gonna fix it” (I don’t know how, I don’t know when, but somehow I’ll fix it) even when he’s just a voice in your head, can’t do anything without V’s assistance in some form, yet he knows if he can think up something, maybe contact the right people, give V some ideas, some leads, he can fix this because he’s taking responsibility, whereas in the Panam quest, he shows empathy but is also still so full of anger and hatred that he shows remorse but also spirals into a tirade and says “If I need your body, I’ll fucking take it” (!!!) whereas here, he doesn’t show, at least outwardly, that hunger for revenge but rather a solemn acceptance that maybe not committing the same crime that was committed against him is more important than a revenge mission.

still screaming how well written he is because you and gvitch had two totally separate interpretations, both 100 percent valid and it is so interesting to see how you both came to the conclusions, johnny comes off so well written to me for that reason alone

damn ^ You make some excellent points as well, and I totally see it- the mention of the lines he gives when you first meet him is something i never thought about before, so its interesting to think if he even cares about persuading V to see his side of things, or even if that is a secondary or even tertiary goal.

really doubt that’s part of his plan to convince v to do something about mikoshi

i don’t actually think this was another persuasion method because he mentions several times how fucked up it is that v is going to die because he is going to be taking over. this is just genuinely how he feels about it, it’s ingrained in his morals and values even though people like to think he doesn’t have any. even when you first wake up with him in your head he talks about being like mold creeping into you, that there’s nothing he can do about it, and that he’d puke if he could
